Coffee, Teddies and 80s Beats: Summer of Support Ahead from Cancer Friends Causeway Coast

magazine Jun 05, 2025

If your summer calendar is looking a little empty, Cancer Friends Causeway Coast (CFCC) has you sorted—with three incredible events designed to bring people together, raise much-needed funds, and support local families affected by cancer. And trust us, there’s something for everyone.

First up is a comforting classic— the Coffee Morning on Saturday 14th June at Coleraine Methodist Church Hall from 11am–2pm. Expect delicious home bakes, warming brews and great company—all in aid of a very real cause. Lyn Ritchie from CFCC says, "Come and join us to help raise funds for our summer events to treat families affected by cancer to a stress-free couple of days out in the fresh air, making memories with their families and friends. All donations will be greatly received."

Funds raised at the Coffee Morning will directly support the group’s next family-friendly event: the Teddy Bear Picnic on Tuesday 8th July, from 11am–1pm at 47A New Row, Coleraine. It’s a supervised Drop & Go session with picnic lunch included, giving parents a breather while little ones enjoy toys, crafts, sensory play, and stories—all for just £10 per child (tickets via Eventbrite). And yes, don’t forget your child’s favourite teddy!

Then, it’s time to ditch the picnic blanket and dust off your leg warmers. The summer wraps up with the ultimate throwback: CFCC’s Back to the 80s Disco on 16th August at Coleraine Rugby Club from 7.30–11.30pm. With tickets at just £5, expect raffles, spot prizes, and a chance to dress to impress in your brightest neon. This isn’t just a disco—it’s a night of pure fun with purpose.

Founded by cancer survivor Joanne Adams and Lyn Ritchie, Cancer Friends Causeway Coast is a lifeline for many on the North Coast. The charity offers vital emotional and peer support for cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones—through support meetings, wellness sessions, and social outings. Their mission is simple: no one should feel alone in their cancer journey.

Every cake eaten, teddy cuddled, and dancefloor moment helps keep that mission alive.
